Otay Ranch is a sprawling master-planned community south of EastLake, built out over decades on what was once cattle ranchland.

Its town center has become one of the South Bay's main retail and dining destinations, giving Otay Ranch residents — and plenty of nearby EastLake families — a walkable hub without leaving the area.

Local Facts & Lore

• The City of Chula Vista and San Diego County approved Otay Ranch's General Development Plan on October 28, 1993, covering tens of thousands of acres.
• Development began in the 1980s on land that had been cattle ranchland for generations.
• Its hub, Otay Ranch Town Center, opened on October 27, 2006, originally anchored by Macy's, Borders, REI, and an AMC movie theater, and remains one of the area's main shopping and dining destinations.
